Articles in the History of Cherokee County, Texas say that:

Thomas' great grandfather John Sellman emigrated to CalvertCo, MD from England abt 1658 in his early teens and descendants moved into Stafford and other counties of VA. Soon after marriage Thomas and Jemimah Selman moved from StaffordCo, VA to the western SC frontier where several of his brothers lived. About ten years later they moved west again to ElbertCo, GA. Thomas and Jemimah had total of 11 children and reared two nephews, Stafford and Abner Selman.

In upper SC during and after the Revolutionary War, there were several Selman families: Jeremiah, William, John, Thomas and Benjamin (possibly all brothers). Jeremiah Selman (b. 1741; d. abt 1817 SpartanburgCo, SC) and Thomas Selman lived and attended church in the same community. Jeremiah Selman served in the Battle of Kings Mountain and John Selman was in the Battle of Cowpens in the Revolutionary War. Both are listed in Roster of TN Soldiers by Whitley. Stafford and Abner Selman, both b. StaffordCo, VA abt 1780, were sons of either John or Benjamin Selman who were raised by Thomas Selman. Others speculate the two were sons of an unaccounted for brother James.

1783: The family consisting of Eli and nephews Abner and Stafford who were 3 and 2 years old appear in ElbertCo, GA.

1786: By the spring the family was in SpartanburgCo, SC where other Selman brothers lived.

1807: The family moved to newly organized FranklinCo, TN.

1816: Thomas died of in an influenza epidemic.  Jemimah moved with remaining children to BentonCo, AL (later CalhounCo) after her husband's death.

abt 1654: Many sources list 1660 CalvertCo, Maryland as the birthdate and place of Elizabeth Brashear.   Author Charles Brashear of A Brashear(s) Family History argues that Elizabeth must have been born in VA. She is listed as a headright on Benois' land records when he moved to Maryland for which he received 50 acres.  Only people not born in Maryland were eligible.  Benois did not claim his daughter, Mary, who was probably the only one of the children born in Maryland.  The Benois Brasseur family moved to MD in 1658.

1658: Jonathan (John) Sellman appeared in CalvertCo, Maryland and is said to have arrived from Europe with future in-laws Brashear as an indentured servant at age 13. He moved with the Brashear family after some years to Anne ArundelCo where he served ten or twelve years as a customs servant.

1663:  In the will of her mother, Mary Richford Brashear, Elizabeth Brashear (Sellman) was to receive three heifers and their female produce upon reaching age 16 or marriage.

1675:  Sellman received two warrants for 50 acres each from Charles Calvert "for time of service performed in the province."  On 3 Jul Sellman turned over one of his warrants for land received to Thomas Henge.

1676: On 12 Dec John Sellman purchased 175 acres on the south side of the South River and west of Flat Creek in Anne ArundelCo with partner George Westall.  The area was called Covells Folly which is about 1.5 miles NE of present Davidsonville, MD.  John Sellman accumulated over 900 acres in county where he hosted many "custom servants" and "indentured servants," three of whom died in his service and are buried at All Hallows Church.

1707: 18 Jul Sellman recorded his will which was proved 28 Feb. 1808 (Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD, bk. 12, pg. 205).

1708:  Widow Elizabeth Brashear Sellman married Dr. William Nicholls on 8 Nov in CalvertCo, MD.

1728/1729: The All Hallows Parish Register, Anne ArundelCo, MD recorded the burial of Eliza Nicholls, widow, 17 Jan.   Some contend she was buried in Baltimore City.
