EVENT: Class of '62 Reunion

YEAR: 1984

SETTING: Cape Canaveral---Just before a record-making shot. Conversation is taking place between Rochelle and Binkie.

Why, ROCHELLE MARRINAN! I haven't seen you in ages---22 years to be exact What have you been doing all this time?

BINKIE BOLTON! It HAS been a long time. Well---just lately I've been adding to my collection of Indian mounds. My last one gave me a bit of trouble. It was in Siberia and I had to pull some strings to have Russia admitted to the Union. What about you?

I've just come back from an extended trip around the world. It's taken me about 5 years. My doctor advised me to take it.

Say, Binkie, isn't that GLENN HERBERT the famous divorce lawyer and his secretary, ELOISE BECK? What's KEN HART doing with them?

Well---uh---that's why my doctor advised me to travel!

Isn't it nice that we could have the reunion before the astronaut goes? The reunion wouldn't be complete without him. Yeah! Most of the old grads are coming now. I came early purposely to see everyone as they came in.

I guess it's only natural that we should see DON DAVIS and JERRY WILEY among the first---they work here. They're in the missile construction business.

Isn't that CHARLES KUEBLER and DAVID SNYDER---and there's CLARENCE MOODY and TOMMY REEDY.

Charles, David and Clarence are top mechanics for the Davis and Wiley firm and Tommy hauls the missiles in his trucks.

It seems as if everyone has a part in this big shot! Here's the pressroom. Let's go on inside. Goodness, it's crowded in here. Why, isn't that MYRNA CHAPIN and LINDA PARRISH, too---still running around together, I see!

Yes, Myrna and Linda Faye have a Girl Friday Bureau. They've volunteered to do the presswork for this shot.

I see they only employ Lake Weir graduates---there's RACHEL WISE---typing up the astronaut's contract. MARY PAYNE and SONYA McKINNEY seem to be busy on the teletypes.

Yes, Rachel got her start in contracts in the Belleview Heights Real Estate Office and hasn't stopped yet!

I'll bet Mary and Sonya learned to type in one of Mr. Kearsley's classes.

LINDA SUE WATTS looks busy! On-the-spot news reporting is a strenuous job.

Yeah! She says people got tired of looking at Walter Cronkite! TV beats secretarial work any day, Linda says. Countdowns are her specialty.

That's TEDDY HAYES, isn't it? I heard he has a "jet Sound" band made up exclusively of saxophones.

That's what I heard, too. Hey! Isn't that JOHN HILL, the newly-elected Governor of Florida, and his secretary, SANDRA BECK?

Yes, with an original slogan like "It's time for Hill" he just couldn't lose. It seems as if everyone is coming!

Yes, even SAMMY STORMANT, the barber turned singer, is here with his publicity agent, ARTHUR MICHNOWICZ, and his favorite manicurist, NANCY PHILLIPS.

Nancy does comedy sketches on Sammy's new show, "Swing Along With Sammy. " Well, LINDA SLADE, M.D., the famous TV pediatrician, with two stars of her show. They are typical housewives, PATSY OLIVER STAUDT and BUNNY MONROE KINGSLAND. Bunny has with her those famous Kingsland quintuplets you've heard so much about.

I heard that before Dr. Slade turned to TV she treated space monkeys here at the cape.

And MOE LEWIS---I hear he's teaching Mrs. Austin's English classes at Lake Weir now!

What do you know? There's BEVERLY McNELY and PERRY JACOBS who were named Mr. and Mrs. America of 1970.

Here's one of the most celebrated masters of ceremonies in the business, DR. BRIAN HOWLAND of the College Bowl. His fellow researchers are DR. KAROLYN KIRKLAND, a noted physicist; BARBARA HOLDER, former geometry teacher, and DR. LAURA LYNN HERNDON, former president of the University of Lake Weir.

Even BILLY CLAPP, manager of the New York Rebs (for Rebels living in the North), and his no-hit pitcher, DON PHILLIPS, is here.

Look over there, Rochelle. There are some more of the members of the Class of '62 who have made sports a living---RAYBURN STEELE, RALPH NICHOLS, DAN HOLDER, and JOE PERRY, all on the coaching staff at Lake Weir.

And there's PAUL MARTIN, who long ago gave up motorcycles. He seems to have made his mark in basketball. He was voted "most valuable" player in the States---thanks to the efforts of a talented inventor, JERRY STODGHILL. It seems Jerry invented high-heel tennis shoes.

Here's something of interest---an agricultural research team made up of Doctors HILEN MARTIN, ARVID NELSON, and ERNEST BOWSER. They're awaiting the outcome of this shot with enthusiasm.

Aren't they investigating the possibilities of starting a Future Farmer Chapter in outer space? And there's that famous salesman from Belleview. Why, I've heard he's President of the Western Auto Company. BILL TRESSLAR'S come a long way.

Golly, Binkie---GEORGE WALTON, the famous linguist and librarian. He's going to decipher the information from the astronaut. You know, Binkie, it's really going to be exciting! The astronaut should leave soon.

I guess so. There goes the famous x-ray team of JOAN SCHMITTLE and BARBARA HODGES. They'll take a picture to make sure everything is fine inside.

There goes MANUEL RODRIGUEZ out to light the fuse on the rocket. Everything's ready now!

It's really quite fair that a former Lake Weir student---not to mention the fact that he's the Governor of Texas---should be making this shot.

He was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and let's hope he does! It's almost time!

(Heard in background is the voice of Linda Sue Watts in her famous countdown) 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-0-Ignition, Liftoff!)
