Order From the Mexican Legislature to the Political Chief
of The Department of Texas to Sell Buildings and

Walls at Mission San Antonio Valero, (Alamo)

July 16, 1827.

The Secretary of Deputies of the Honorable Congress with the official letter dated the 14th of the current month, do so state:

"To His Excellency: The Legislature having viewed the offical letters of the Government dated July 14 and August 25 of 1825, together with the copy of the letter of June of the same year, direct the Chief of the department of Texas to sell the buildings and old walls of the mission of San Antonio Valero, but that the houses of the convent are to be used for quarters for the troops. This is according to the letter from the Military Commander of that Department.

After hearing the debates and the conditions, we say to your Excellency that; not having enough money in the public treasury of this State, and not being able to provide you with any funds for this project for quarters for your troops; as there are not enough funds to send you; and if we did sent you any funds, it would ruin the treasury. We must guard against this.

In order for your project to come into reality, we suggest that your Excellency sell, at public auction,at the best entrance or gate, with the formalities established for such cases.

All the buildings, walls and anything else that is of that secularized mission of San Antonio Valero can be sold, except the houses that can be used for quarters. The houses are not to be used for anything else.

Any money collected from this sale is to be sent to the public treasury of the State.

Your Excellency is empowered by orders of this same Legislature to accomplish this. We await the resaults on this matter.

God and Liberty,
Saltillo, (Mexico),
July 16, 1827.
